Jan Trumbo, 1404 E Lind Road
Following the initial landscape project in fall 2008, somebody stole the saguaro in the east Cherry entrance. Also, on Lind, someone ran over the center chicane, knocking down the reflector and killing the barrel and saguaro in the center.
These needed replacing, along with various other casualties from the hard freezes this winter.
In August 2011, I went very early to the Tucson Cactus and Succulent Society rescued cactus sale, in order to get replacement plants, including a saguaro. They limit you to one saguaro and one ocotillo per person.
Friends of mine also donated three very large barrel cactus. I hired Jerry Ortiz to help and we transplanted the whole collection. We also re-erected the Vine center reflector that had been mowed down. It's a little shorter than before because it was broken off below ground.
Enormous thanks go to neighbors who have been helping to maintain these landscape areas with water, cleanup and pruning. Your work is noticed and appreciated!!

In an effort to slow traffic entering from Campbell Ave., we are looking at constructing chicanes on these two entrances.
In an effort to discourage cut-through traffic from Ft. Lowell, we restricted those roads to one-way (in to the neighborhood on Cherry, exits on Martin and Vine.) This proved successful and the neighborhood voted to keep these permanent.
The neighborhood won a grant to design improved entry and exit boundaries to the neighborhood on Ft. Lowell. The design is at the conceptual stage. (Hint: these are only ideas, and it is far too early to ask about costs!)
The final design by landscape architecture students Blessing Hancock and Sara Herr are in pdf form which you can download here.
The original concept drawings are here.
